100 Days, 100 Detroit Lions: #7 Ndamukong Suh

Posted on Updated on

In this edition of 100 Days 100 Detroit Lions, we honor a Lions on the current roster who has redefined the position of defense tackle in just his third NFL season.

7. Ndamukong Suh

Defensive Tackle. 2010-Present Detroit

Ndamukong Suh, was one of the most dominating and decorated players in NCAA history. As a college senior at the University of Nebraska, Suh won the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy, and was recognized as a unanimous All-American. Suh was chosen by the Lions with the second overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-4, 307-pounder made an immediate impact with the Lions. He led the Lions, all rookies, and all defensive tackles in sacks with 10, earning his first Pro Bowl selection. Suh become the first Lions rookie since Barry Sanders to be picked as a Pro Bowl starter. Suh was also named NFL All-Pro, Sporting News Rookie of the Year, Pro Football Weekly and Pro Football Writers of America Rookie of the Year, as well as AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.

His all-out style of play, dominating physical presence and, at times, line-crossing behavior on the field, has made him the target of criticism from media, fans and the NFL front office – which has fined and/or suspended Suh five times during his first two-plus years in the league.
