Let me be real clear on this. Iran is not a threat to the United States. They have never been a threat to the United States. When Iran has a naval force that can mount a successful D-Day-style assault on Manhattan Island, they will be a threat. When their air force can launch daylight bombing raids on the U.S. West Coast and our red-state heartland, they will be a threat. Until then, you can take this military-industrial propaganda about the Persians being a threat and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.
But by Brigham Young! Don’t tell that Mitt Romney!
ANTIWAR has a great commentary from John Glaser on the portion of the Mother Jones Romneyhate (my words not theirs) video that most observers are missing:
I’ve heard a lot of outlandish reasons to consider Iran a threat, but sending Hezbollah to Chicago with a dirty bomb is almost record-breaking in its absurdity. . . . as David Corn writes, he “didn’t appear to understand that a dirty bomb—an explosive device that spreads radioactive substances—does not require fissile material from a nuclear weapons program. . . .
. . . Furthermore, this ridiculous scenario recklessly overestimates the capabilities of Hezbollah and the stupidity of Iran. In the context of their nuclear program, Iran is interested in deterring military threats from the US and Israel – not in committing national suicide by provoking a nuclear war for which they are pathetically outmatched.
